In this one world at this one cafe
There is a man who mirrors every man in me
He stands to my left
And twitches that incessant twitch
Of now is not enough
Until it's something else
That will not be enough
Once it manifests itself
We are outside
He is up against the face of the glass
And sagging like tragic bathroom reflection
It is winter ice matches eyes in the fusion of introspection and wonder
Snowmen smile in the culmination of childhood sculpture
Mountain tips are as soft as a flock of doves in slumber
-his spine and tongue are hunched over.
Smoke licks his face with ashen carnivals
As his lips escort a funeral of fire
Across the countenance of perpetual clover
The perpetual clover
That continually finds fruition
On the waterfall eyes of this agitated genie bottle
Who keeps speaking perfectly our shared tragedy?
That we etch between our mouths and ears
In this story that struggles to become poetry
This is exactly the winter he winter
Back when he swapped supplication with summer
That scorched exactly as he envisioned it
I look at snowflakes as they become the buttons of his jacket
Send there is a stanza
That is steady above the two of us:
Mother Nature carving the faces of gods
And powdering our bodies
With the possibility
That we are creation
Carnivals of light bounce along the embrace of a sapphirey sky
Like a million huck Finns’ hoppin' candy apple ready
And the birds don’t know anything better
Than to sing infinity from their beaks
And embrace the epic majesty
Like the Berlin philharmonic
Wrap their world around Beethoven’s 9th symphony
But fall is at his forefront
As avian choirs hold this heaven
Only head turn
From now where he turns his head away
Says spring says spring gives him nothing but blues
Says fall is permeating his head
With her panorama of transition
His lips jump up
Like playground hands scoopin’ jacks
As he starts talking fall surrounds him
And keeps the colors from seeping out
His lips flop down as he curses her
For the leaves that will leave him behind
In a blanketing December
Awaiting his creator
Who stepped through suns?
Before he savored a second of their heat
Summer is upon us like a Somerset Maugham conqueror
Heliocentric hops sketch across
The bubbling countenance of solstice waterways
Southern belles sip gold sunshine
And chatter enchanting chime son ancient porches
Incandescent rainbows lip-stick the sky
And crawl across his face like luminescent infants
-but he quickly recoils from confrontation
Of all exuberant excess
His world as it blazes in brilliance
And there is a blizzard on the outskirts
A winter to slip himself under
A hideaway that heaves like a haven
A getaway that will get right back to here
As it cackles like a macaw and macaws like a raven
Fall descends
Pumpkin spice permeates the air
The weather is tender
As the emerald whisper of northwest forests
Leaves hold the colors of his life
And sing cycle across earthly skies
As blades of grass whistle with the stanzas
That echo from the breast of father Walt Whitman
Soon there comes the sun
It flickers like surrender
And there is another move to strike again
But it’s struck down
In the shake of our spirits
We pause for presence
With the history of our human clock
That kisses and splits like an immaculate raindrop
We catch flows contemplating funerals
Before tomorrow's tomorrow gets carried away
And answer "Hey brother, how we doing'?"
With "Brother, it's a perfect day."
